Position Information

Job Title: Library Assistant I

FT/PT: Part Time

Hours: 15 hours per week

Salary: $13.91 per hour

Position Description:

Work a public desk and provide excellent customer service. Assist individuals of all ages to find information and locate materials. Recommend materials through a variety of media and inquiry sources. Actively promote the library, its materials, services and programs. Stay current with appropriate literature and assist with selecting and weeding material as needed and as directed by the Head of Adult Services. Generate and maintain reports and statistics as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.


This position is expected to work primarily nights and weekends.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or minimum 2 years relevant experience required (LTA or MLS students preferred)

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment , often on multiple tasks with interruptions.

Ability to work with limited supervision.

Knowledge of and comfort with relevant software and equipment, with emphasis on tablet devises and e-resources, is necessary.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with an ethnically and age diverse public and staff

Ability to read computer screens; type accurately; answer telephones; and move about service area easily; including ability to push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds as well as lift and sorts materials of various weights up to 35 pounds

Fluency in a second language is desirable

Must have reliable transportation and be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
