Rocco Buttliere Lego Skyscraper Artist Display 12-5 p.m.

When: Sunday, May 19, 2013 - All Day
Where: Front Room

Lego skyscraper artist, Rocco Buttliere, will be displaying his collected works in the Front Room. Buttliere has displayed twice before at the library, as well as twice over the summer of 2012 at the Buffalo Grove Farmer's Market. He is also a two-time displayer at the Chicago Brickworld convention. His display features twenty-five skyscraper models at a common 1/650 scale, made up of more than 125,000 pieces. Some of his most notable works include Willis Tower, the former World Trade Center complex, the World Financial Center complex in New York City, Marina City in Chicago, and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Each model features unique and innovative techniques and are all thoroughly detailed down to the street level plazas. Rocco is currently attending the Illinois Institute of Technology where he is studying architecture.

HMS Jazz Band I and II

Over the past couple of years, the Holmes Jazz Bands have earned several awards at local Jazz Festivals! At this performance, patrons will be treated to many different styles of music, including swing, Latin, rock, pop, and ballads. Patrons will also be treated to some great improvisation, one of the key components of jazz, making it a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Audrey Hepburn as beloved actress, humanitarian, and style icon is certainly well chronicled. Besides her talents as an actress, Audrey had a strong musical proclivity that expressed itself in both singing and dancing. And though her singing voice may not have been her strongest attribute, it was applied to good effect in two acclaimed films: "Funny Face" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Audrey served as a muse to composer Henry Mancini and lyricist Johnny Mercer. In fact, the Hepburn-Mancini collaboration was to last for four films in the 1960s. Also in "Funny Face," Audrey was a very able dance partner to the legendary Fred Astaire, bringing her gamine charm to the role. “My Fair Lady” brought controversy due to Audrey’s casting, and how her singing voice was used or not used in the film. Through narration and film clips, we will follow Audrey Hepburn's musical contributions to film. R
