How do I get a membership card?

Sign up for your membership card at the main library or Prospect Heights Branch during regular library hours. Become a member.

What if I lost my membership card?

Report lost or stolen cards immediately to the library at 847-279-2232. You are responsible for all items checked out on the card, including all charges and fines that accrue on the card until you notify the library that your card has been lost or stolen.

What if I move, change my phone number, or email address?

Please report any changes to your account immediately. For a change of address you may wish to verify that you are still within our district boundaries by calling 847-279-2232. If you no longer reside within our boundaries you will have to obtain a new card from your home library.

Changes to your phone number or email address can be updated over the phone, 847-279-2232, or in person at the Members Services desk.


How long is my membership card valid?

Indian Trails Library cards expire every three years and non-resident member cards expire after one year. You will receive an email notification one month before your card expires. To renew your card, present valid identification at the library and verify account information. Once any fines, lost items or fees have been resolved, your card will be renewed.

Why can’t I log into my account?

Expired Cards
An expired card will prevent you from accessing your account online. Please contact call 847-279-2232 for assistance with your account.
Outstanding Fines and Fees Fines in excess of $10 or fines that have accrued for 21 days or longer will affect your access to library services, including accessing your account, library computers, electronic resources, and self-checkout stations

What if I lose or damage an item?

The lost or damaged item can be paid for at the original purchase price or a new unopened replacement copy whose ISBN number matches the original item is also acceptable. No refunds are given if the lost item is found after it has been paid for or replaced.


How can I put an item on hold?

Only resident cardholders may request holds on items. Please have your library card number and PIN available before placing a hold. Place an item on hold. Link to “Holds” under “My Membership”


How long can I keep an item?

  • Hot Picks: books, audio-visual materials, CDs
  • Regular DVDs, Blu-rays

  • Adult new fiction, Playaway Views, eReaders, eBooks (online only)

  • Children’s and young adult print materials
  • Regular adult print material, CDS, magazines, Cliff’s notes, vertical files, comic books
6 Weeks
  • Book club books, vacation loans (new books not eligible), organizational checkouts

What if the library doesn’t have what I want?

Indian Trails Library cardholders in good standing may request interlibrary loan for items the library does not currently have by placing a request online or at a service desk.

How do I pay my fines?

Fines may be paid at the “Member Services” desk with cash or check ONLY. You may pay by credit card online through our website using e-Pay. A minimum $1 fee is charged by e-Pay for using this service; the library does not collect the service fee.

Why can’t I renew my items?

Hot Picks
Hot Pick items are not renewable.

Requests
Items have been requested by another member.

Maximum Renewals
Items may only be renewed up to a four times.

Interlibrary Loans
Items that have been borrowed from another library must be renewed via phone or in person. Please contact Indian Trails Library to renew these items, 847-279-2232.

Expired Membership Card
Indian Trails Library cards expire every three years. Please contact the library to renew your card, 847-279-2232.
